It is not compulsory to audition before coming to AIMS.

But if you are interested in perhaps a solo role in one of the performances, or would like to apply for a grant from our Bursary Fund, or want to be considered for the Celebrity Masterclass, you will need to book an audition. Please note: you will need to be already booked onto the summer course before an audition time can be allocated. Click here for a printable booking form.

Please send your completed booking form along with a non-refundable deposit of £75 to Penny. Payment can be made by internet bank transfer:

Sort code: 40 25 06
Account number: 81383132
IBAN: GB37MIDL40250681383132

Alternatively you can send a cheque payable to ‘AIMS’ to Penny Jenkins, AIMS Administrator, Barn End, Castle Lane, Bramber, West Sussex BN44 3FB.

Auditions take place on Sunday 23 April 2017 at St Gabriel’s Halls, Pimlico, London SW1V 3AA, from 10am until 6pm.

Solo Roles

If you are coming on the Solo course, we really encourage you to consider auditioning. One of the strengths of AIMS is the opportunity to work with and perform with other singers. There are usually enough parts in the various performances to give every person who auditions something to sing. These could be in the various Staged and Semi-Staged opera scenes, the music theatre or early music performances, solos in the choral concerts and many more.

Singers will have the chance to compete for the 4 top prizes of £400 towards the cost of the course (one each for a soprano, a mezzo, a tenor and a baritone/bass). There will also be lots of smaller awards available. In 2016 we were able to help 40 singers with their course fees.

You will need to be already booked onto the summer course (see above). Complete a Bursary Application Form 2017 and send it to Penny.  PLEASE NOTE: the deadline for applying for Bursaries is 20 March 2017. Auditions times will be allocated after this date. You can state your preference for a morning or afternoon audition when you book.

Celebrity Masterclass

Advanced singers have the opportunity to audition for specialist coaching in the Celebrity Masterclass. This year we are delighted to announce that Dame Ann Murray will take the Celebrity Masterclass.

Points to note

You need to bring two contrasting songs, but do not expect to sing all the way through both of them. There usually just isn’t time. There will be pianists on hand to play for you so you do not need to bring your own accompanist.

We understand that it is not always feasible for all students to attend the audition day, for example, International Students. If you wish to be considered, please help us by sending in a good quality recording (either DVD or a website URL link), 2 photographs and a CV.

If you are applying after the audition day (Saturday 23 April 2017) it is still possible to be considered, but please understand that soon after the audition date, most main roles will be allocated. Please email Penny if this applies to you.
