The AIMS Office, Information Centre and First-Aid Post is in a corridor of the main school building, in a central position nearly beneath the tower. You may do your photocopying here, buy postcards and ‘AIMS’ mugs, and pay for ‘extras’ such as meals or tickets for visitors.
It is where you can meet the Artistic Director, the Administrator, the House Manager and their staff of ‘helpers’ and ‘TROGS’. It will be situated in a very well sign-posted position in the centre of the main school complex.
Nearby will be the noticeboards, displaying the daily timetables, and the sign-up lists for practise-rooms, sign-up classes etc, and details about the visiting therapists.
The office is where you sort out your accommodation problems; pay for ‘extras’ such as Meals and Concerts if you are a NON-RESIDENT in category B or C; together with tickets for visiting guests etc. Your timetabling problems can usually be sorted out here, too. Neil Jenkins will deal with this kind of enquiry between 8.30am – 10am every morning. You may also rent some time on the computer terminals (in order to see your e-mails) and photo-copiers for a small charge. It is the hub of the operation; and if problems cannot be sorted out here then they are probably insoluble!
It will be possible to have an internet connection in the Office for a small charge.
The ‘helpers’ will take phone calls for students, and then post messages on the notice board for them. They are in charge of putting up the daily Practice Room chart, and are the first people to consult if you have health issues. They coordinate the First-Aiders, know where the course Doctor is, lock and unlock rooms, do photocopying (at a small charge), print the Programmes for the end-of-course concerts, and sell AIMS Mugs and postcards – amongst a million other duties. There is a second-hand music stall – so bring something along to sell: all proceeds go towards the Bursary Fund. One bursary was raised this way in 2008 & 2009.
The ‘TROGS’ will be attached to specific courses to help them go smoothly & iron out any hiccups. They will supervise the queuing at meal times, take your meal tickets, move chairs frequently & supervise the car parking. Be nice to the ‘helpers’ & ‘TROGS’ – they are doing it for the love of it......
