
John Ramster is a freelance opera director and Drama Lecturer for the Opera Department at the Royal Academy of Music and regularly directs productions and scenes there most recently Hänsel und Gretel, Cavalli's La Calisto and Britten's The Rape of Lucretia. He began his operatic career with Glyndebourne where he assisted on over 20 productions, working alongside directors such as Peter Sellars, Trevor Nunn and Deborah Warner. As a freelance director he has worked most recently with the Cambridge Handel Opera Group on Ariodante, University College Opera on the UK premiere of Bloch's Macbeth, OTC (Ireland) on Hansel & Gretel and The Marriage of Figaro , and with Opera Faber (Portugal) on Don Giovanni and L’elisir d’amore.
